Partners in Missions and Ministry

Extending a Helping Hand to the Community

Our Association tires to extend a helping hand to the community because the community does not care who are what we know until they know we care about them. Associational ministries are ministries that are too big for one church to do alone. So, we need your help to reach out to the community. Maybe your church, Sunday School Class, or children's or missions education group would like to take on a ministry project from the list of opportunities. Please call the Associational Office if you are interested in helping.

Alzheimer's Closet
Our Associational Alzheimer's ministry is led by Joy Poteet. Our ministry works in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association of West Georgia. To receive assistance is not based on income but rather if a person has Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. The closet is open on Monday's from 9 to noon. We give five basic items--Adult diapers, baby wipes, gloves, bed pads, and lotion.

Disaster Relief
Our Associational Disaster Relief Ministry is led by Jeff Carter. Our ministry works in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention, Georgia Baptist Convention and Unit R-13 from the Nooday Association. It is a clean-up and recovery unit. We have purchased and decaled a trailer. Currently, we need funds for outfitting the trailer with the required equipment and tools. Also, for installing shelving in the trailer. Recently, Jeff led a group to help those in Kentucky during the ice storm.

Jail Ministry
Our Associational Jail Ministry is led by Earl Wigley. Earl leads groups of volunteers to go hold worship services in our local jails and detention centers. Also, we distribute Bibles to those prisoners who wish to have one. Currently, the ministry is in need of ladies to volunteer to go to the Polk Co. Jail on Sundays with other team members so that a service can be provided for the women.

Polk County Food Pantry
Our Associational Food Pantry Ministry is led by Martha Davis and Evelyn Collier. It is located at Young's Grove Baptist Church on Antioch Road. Due to the local economy, the food pantry has seen record numbers for people needing food and clothing. The ministry is in need of help. All monies sent to the Association designated for the food pantry goes to their account and is spent by that ministry. You can call the food pantry on Mondays and Wednesdays at 770 749-1300.

Polk-Haralson Baptist Assembly
The Assembly is the legal entity which operates Camp Antioch and the Children's Home which the Association owns. The Polk-Haralson Baptist Assembly is overseen by a board of directers. Camp Antioch and the Children's Home does not receive any Associational funds for its ministry. It is funded directly by the churches of the Association and by the fees collected for its use. The camp does not charge Associational churches when they wish to use the camp. However, the camp is facing a financial crisis and needs Associational churches to support its ministry. If you wish to reserve the camp for a church activity, please call Bobbie Grogan, Director, at 770 748-6681. The Children's home is property which is the Polk County Foster Parents Association currently uses for the care of children.
